Engelbert Humperdinck Two Year Duet Project To Be Released This Week

$

0

Music legend Engelbert Humperdinck will release ‘Engelbert Calling’, his double album of duets in Australia this week after working on the project for over two years.

‘Engelbert Calling’ started with Engelbert’s son and manager Scott Dorsey contacted many of Engelbert’s friends and suggested they sing a song with the music legend.

“It’s taken two years but its finally finished, its ready to go,” an excited Engelbert Humperdinck tells Noise11.com.

The album was released two weeks ago in the UK and was an instant hit for the 77-year old star. “When it was released in England it went to no. 3 on the HMV chart and Top 30 in the national charts. Now we are waiting for it to happen in Australia,” he said.

Some of the guests are old friends of Engelbert’s but with thanks to technology, a few were done remotely and he is yet to meet them yet. “Some of them I haven’t even met of yet but people like Elton and Cliff and Olivia and Willie and Lulu, Gene Simmons, Wynona Judd, Johnny Mathis I’ve met. Neil Sedaka, Dionne Warwick, yes. I haven’t met Ron Sexsmith or Luis Fonsi but I have met my two children Louise and Brad”.

The album features Engelbert’s son and daughter performing with their famous dad for the first time. Louise Dorsey sings ‘Better’ with her father on the album while Engelbert’s son Bradley performs the Cat Stevens classic ‘Father and Son’. Engelbert and Cat Stevens also go back a long way, before Cat Stevens was famous. Cat once dropped into Engelbert’s dressing room before a show for some liquid encouragement. “We were all on the same bill, Cat Stevens, Jimi Hendrix, The Walkers, myself,” Engelbert says. “Cat came into my dressing room one time and I was having a little taste of something, a little bit of alcohol, and he said ‘can I have one of those’. I said, ‘you are going on stage Cat. Its going to be dangerous’. He used to sing a song where he swung a pistol around. He had this drink and when he went on stage he dropped the pistol on the floor. He couldn’t handle it. I am so proud to have his song on the CD”.

‘Engelbert Calling’ will be released through Universal Music in Australia this Friday, April 17.

Gene Simmons And Engelbert Humperdinck Joke About Tongues

$

Gene Simmons has joked about his tongue with Engelbert Humperdinck.

The two performers teamed up to record Spinning Wheel for the Release Me singer’s latest album, Engelbert Calling. And while the pair were working together, things got ‘inappropriate’.

‘While Engelbert and I were posing for photos, we made jokes. The usual stuff guys do. Some [were] inappropriate for younger ears, so I’m not sharing,’ the KISS star told Page Six. ‘He was curious if my tongue was as long as he had heard. And I offered that I would normally stick my tongue out, but noticed the floor wasn’t all that clean.’

Engelbert’s two-disc record of duets includes sets with Elton John, Beverley Knight, Wynonna Judd, Willie Nelson and more. The album was released in the US and Canada on September 30 and in the UK earlier this year.

“It’s a great matter of pride to be on this album. Engelbert is ‘that’ guy, the one whose career spans over 50 years,’ Gene said in an interview with the Huffington Post.

“He contacted me and said, ‘Wouldn’t it be fun to sing a song together?’ I said, ‘Sure. Pick a time and place. I’ll be there.”

The Crazy Crazy Nights performer added while he ‘appreciates’ being called an ‘icon’ he takes more pride in the job he does.

‘Whatever it is you do in life you should do a great job at it,’ he told The Huffington Post

Engelbert is best known for his hits Release Me, The Last Waltz, After the Lovin’ and A Man Without Love.

Engelbert Humperdinck, Clean Bandit Collaborate on New Christmas Song All Together Now

The legendary Engelbert Humperdinck is part of an all-star cast with English electronic outlet Clean Bandit for a Christmas cover of The Farm’s All Together Now.

‘All Together Now’ will be released under the artist name ‘The Peace Collective’.

‘All Together Now’ features Alexandra Burke, Guy Chambers, Gorgon City, Gabrielle, The Proclaimers, Engelbert Humperdinck, Holly Johnson, John Power (Cast), Jah Wobble (PiL), Jane McDonald, I Am Kloot, Shara Nelson (Massive Attack), Amelle Berrabah (The Sugababes), the winner of The Voice 2014 Jermain Jackman, and The Farm.

Peter Hooton of The Farm wrote the song. The original song was first released in 1990. The new version will mark the 100th anniversary of the Christmas Day Truce of World War I. “I wrote All Together Now about the extraordinary events on Christmas Day 1914 when British and German troops took part in an unofficial truce, singing Christmas carols, exchanging gifts and even playing football,” Hooton said. “It was a spontaneous act of humanity that transcended the horrors and barbarity of World War One and is a story which still resonates 100 years on. It is a story of hope and peace which should be told over and over again. I’m so very proud that so many artistes from all styles of music and the football authorities have come together to promote peace and reconciliation this Christmas and raise funds for the brilliant work carried out by the British Red Cross and Shorncliffe Trust.”

‘All Together Now’ will be released on December 15. All proceeds will go to the British Red Cross and the Shorncliffe Trust.

Engelbert Humperdinck Takes On Iron Maiden For UK Chart Battle

The UK is facing one of its biggest chart showdowns of all-time with music legend Engelbert Humperdinck in battle again metal icons Iron Maiden for the number one spot on the English chart next week.

Engelbert Humperdinck’s collaboration with The Peace Collective ‘All Together Now’ is a charity song raising funds for the Red Cross/Red Crescent organisation to continue their humanitarian work.

The Peace Collective is an all-star gathering with Engelbert Humperdinck joined by Clean Bandit, Gorgon City, Suggs, Mick Jones, David Gray, Julian Lennon, The Proclaimers, Gabrielle, Jah Wobble, Leo Sayer, John Power and Holly Johnson.

The Iron Maiden campaign is purely to stick it up Simon Cowell. There slogan is “Up the Irons! Up the charts! Up yer arse Cowell!”.

Peter Hooton of The Farm is the composer of ‘All Together Now’. He told Officialcharts.com “First and foremost we wanted to make a record that would stand the test of time but obviously to challenge for the Official Christmas Number 1 would be a fantastic. We are definitely the underdogs as we have no marketing budget as such and are relying upon goodwill and favours from some brilliant people in the music industry and football. I think it would be a symbolic Number 1 promoting peace and commemorating the extraordinary events of 1914 when there was a brief period of humanity during the horrors of warfare.”

The wildcard for number one next week is last nights X-Factor winner Ben Haenow. His single ‘Something I Need’ is the Cowell creation the Iron Maiden campaign is out to block.

Engelbert Humperdinck Remembers His Friend Elvis Presley For His 80th Birthday

$

0

Elvis Presley would have turned 80 in this past week and a man who knew him well and considered him one of his closest friends was Engelbert Humperdinck.

Engelbert was a few years younger than Elvis and befriended the American legend when he first broke into the USA in the mid 60s. They remained the closest of friends until Elvis’ death in 1977.

“He was wonderful, one of the dearest people I have met in my life,” Engelbert tells Noise11.com. “He was one of the most kind-hearted, benevolent people you will ever come across. He would be driving in his car and see somebody on the street in bare feet and whatever he had in his pocket he would take and give it to them and say ‘get yourself a pair of shoes’. He was that kind of guy”.

Elvis met Engelbert when he came to an Engelbert show. “The first time I met him he had come to meet me,” Engelbert said. “He came to see my show first before I went to see him. Believe me, it took me a good 10 minutes to quiten the audience down once I introduced him. He stood up and he had a cape on and he opened the cape as he stood in the booth in Las Vegas with the cape open like Batman. The audience went absolutely berserk and I said “shhhh, this is my show”. No, I couldn’t quieten then down. So I brought out some of my big gun songs to try and quieten then down which I did in the end. He came backstage and he said “thank you very much, what a great show”. This is how humble he was. He said, “thank you for introducing me”. Elvis! I said “Elvis, I can’t thank you enough for being at my show”. He was such a nice guy, a very nice guy.

Elvis copied his trademark sideburns from Engelbert. “I had them in 1965 and Elvis put his on in 1972,” Engelbert said. “The true story is this … he had a lady sketching him to find an outfit for him to go on his world tour. That’s where the white jump suit came in. She designed this white jumpsuit with the high collar and the long black side-burns. She presented it to him and he went (in Elvis voice) “Hell, that’s not me, that’s Engelbert Humperdinck”. So therefore you know who had it first”.

Engelbert also said that one of Elvis’ biggest problems was the wrong people around him. “I think he was mishandled by his friends and he was a great loss to our industry,” he said.

Elvis would have been 80 on January 8, 2015. Engelbert will turn 80 on May 2, 2016.

Engelbert Humperdinck Left Out Of 50th Anniversary Celebrations (So Far)

$

0

Music legend Engelbert Humperdinck has been left out of all the 50th anniversary music celebrations because he hasn’t been around long enough.

The Rolling Stones, The Kinks, The Beach Boys, The Beatles, The Seekers, The Kinks, The Moody Blues, Bob Dylan and even Tom Jones have all passed the benchmark 50th anniversary of their first release but Engelbert is still two years away from reaching that mark.

Engelbert Humperdinck’s debut single ‘Release Me’ was released in 1967. Five years after The Beatles ‘Love Me Do’, four years after The Rolling Stones ‘Come On’ and two years after Tom Jones ‘It’s Not Unusual’.

When Engelbert was releasing his first record ‘Release Me’, The Beatles were releasing their eighth album ‘Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Night Club’. The Beatles single ‘Penny Lane/Strawberry Fields Forever’ was the first Beatles single to not go to number one. ‘Release Me’ was a number one song in the UK for six weeks blocking The Beatles classic from the top spot.

The career of Engelbert Humperdinck started around the same time in the same place as Jimi Hendrix and Cat Stevens. The three became good friends. Engelbert’s other good friend was (as the British say) “across the pond”. Engelbert was befriended by Elvis Presley and the two remained close friends until the death of Elvis 10 years later.

Engelbert Humperdinck will tour Australia in October and November for Bluehawk Presents. He has sent this message to Australian fans:

Engelbert Humperdinck Recording Country Album

Lauren Wilde is back producing for Engelbert Humperdinck on what is expected to be a country album from the music legend.

Wilde has previous produced Rod Stewart (American Songbook series), Carly Simon (Moonlight Serenade) and Art Garfunkel (Some Enchanted Evening). He previously worked with Engelbert on ‘Engelbert Calling’ (2014) as vocal producer as well as his 2007 release ‘The Winding Road’.

Engelbert’s country roots can be traced back to his very first hit ‘Release Me’ in 1967. The song was 21 years old by the time Engelbert got hold of it and made it his own.

Eddie Miller wrote ‘Release Me’ in 1946. Miller could not find anyone to record the song so he recorded it himself in 1947.

In 1954 the song was recorded by Ray Price. While not his first record, it became his breakthrough record reached no 6 in the USA.

Engelbert Humperdinck recorded ‘Release Me’ in 1967. It reached no 1 on the UK charts and stopped The Beatles ‘Penny Lane/Strawberry Fields Forever’ from topping the British charts for the first time since 1963.

Engelbert Humperdinck will tour Australia in October and November for Bluehawk Presents.

Engelbert Humperdinck and Scott Dorsey Start New Label Spin Records

Engelbert Humperdinck and his son and manager Scott Dorsey have started the new record label Spin Records.

The first release for the label will be Engelbert’s new country album and it now has a title. “We are so excited about our first release Engelbert “Runaway Country” in the very near future plus some other great product to follow,” Scott Dorsey tells Noise11.com.

Spin Records will not be exclusive to Engelbert releases. Scott says they label will be in full A&R mode and other acts will be signed. “Of course our initial main focus is on EH material but we are thrilled to have signed some more great talent to be released before Christmas,” he said.

The creation of Spin Records came from the audience shift to purchase music online. “As the majority of physical sales happen online it seemed like a natural progression to open our own label to service the online demand,” he said.

Spin Records is now being shopped to a major distributor. “We are in talks with a major label who is interested in partnering with us and the label,” Scott Dorsey said exclusively to Noise11.com.

Australian fans will be the first to hear songs from the new album. Engelbert is planning on performing maybe three songs from the album including the brand new original song ‘Runaway’ on his upcoming Australian tour.

Engelbert Humperdinck will tour Australia in October and November for Bluehawk Presents.

Engelbert Humperdinck will finish his Australian tour just weeks before Ron Sexsmith flies into the country to start his tour.

Engelbert Humperdinck and Ron Sexsmith perform together on Engelbert’s ‘Engelbert Calling’ album and despite both keeping up relentless touring schedules, the dates never seem to coincide giving the pair the opportunity to sing the song ‘Something To Hold On To’ live.

“It would have been great. I really like this work. I think he is great,” Engelbert told Noise11.com.

Ron Sexsmith wrote the Christmas song ‘Something To Hold On To’ in 2008 and re-recorded it with Engelbert for the ‘Engelbert Calling’ album in 2014.

Engelbert hasn’t had a chance to perform any of the songs live with his guest artists yet. “They are always doing their own thing but I do get to sing the Elton song with his voice and I do the Willie Nelson one as well. Apart from that none have been on tour with me because they are always doing their own thing,” he said.

Engelbert Humperdinck Preps ‘Runaway Country’ For His New Label Spin Records

Engelbert Humperdinck has alerted fans to the impending release of his new album ‘Runaway Country’.

“About 5 years ago I recorded a country album, ‘A Taste Of Country’,” he posted to fans. “Unfortunately, we didn’t have the right record label behind it and it was only released as an extremely limited release. It always bothered me as these were some of my favourite hand picked songs that never really saw “the light of day”.

“Recently, I decided to go back into the studio with my good friend Lauren Wild and re-record these songs and release them on my own label Spin Records. I am truly proud of the way it has turned out. We have also recorded an amazing brand new original song called ‘Runaway’ which we have included in this new package and actually named the new CD ‘Runaway Country’.

“As you know, country music has always been a massive part of my musical life and I wanted to pay tribute to some of the classic songs that have influenced me during my journey. I hope that you will all support this premiere release Runaway Country on my label Spin Records. I am excited to be performing some of these songs at my upcoming concerts and look forward to seeing you along the Humpy Trail”.

God Bless and Much Love,

Engelbert”

Engelbert Humperdinck Shocked By Tom Jones’ Abusive Outburst But Wishes Him Luck

$

Music legend Engelbert Humperdinck was shocked to learn to Tom Jones used the ‘C’ word when talking about him to a British newspaper last week.

Jones had been bottling up the sentiment for decades when he let fly to The Metro. When asked about their rivalry, Jones replied, “It’s as I say – ‘once a c*** always a c***”.

Engelbert was taken aback by the comment, especially the language used considering Tom’s Knighthood. In response he posted “to be honest i feel sorry for Tom always being in a bad mood. Life is too short to hold anger inside. I wish him luck”.

When Tom Jones and Engelbert Humperdinck were chart rivals in the 60s and 70s, they were both managed by the same man, Gordon Mills. Mills and Jones’ formed their own record label MAM with Engelbert as the label’s biggest star. The label became the UK’s biggest independent label of the early 70s but tensions raised with Engelbert left the label. “I have always held Gordon Mills in very high esteem. He was my friend. He believed in my talent but for the sakes of my career I felt it best to branch away from MAM,” Engelbert told Noise11.com.

Tom apparently took Engelbert’s departure personally and has been bottling the tension all these years.

British record producer Simon Britton, who worked with both Engelbert and Ton on the ‘All Together Now’ charity single commented, “Tom Jones totally overstepped the mark in an interview today in the Metro Newspaper regarding an Icon & True Gentlemen. To use the C*** Word twice in One Sentence is not acceptable. In fact it’s Disgusting… Just a little bit bored of Tom’s stories of “When I Was with Elvis” and so on.. How the Hell did Tom earn the Title Sir? This is a Gentlemen & Sir if you Will.. ‪#‎Truth‬”.

Engelbert has put the outburst behind him as he prepares for his trip to Australia next week for his 2015 Australian tour.
